product junkie

July 30, 2009

I’ve been keeping myself under control by researching thoroughly any products I run across before buying them to not spend more than I need to on products, but I am on the verge of being an addict, lol.

Tonight is hair wash night. I’m starting to think I’m going to have to wash at least every other night with me probably needing to wash nightly. I just can’t go to every night just yet because I need to figure out what works. It isn’t a lot of work, but I want to be sure the next day I will look good.

Tonight’s routine picks up on my routine from earlier this week:

  • Co-wash with Suave Coconut  (I couldn’t keep co-washing with my more expensive conditioners – this one is only $1.99 a bottle.  I also love that it has great ingredients like honey, humectants, coconut extract, and silk)
  • Condition with Biolage (I’m almost out, after it’s gone I’ll try my new Yes to Carrots Conditioner)
  • Aphogee Leave-In (I have a recommendation for Garnier Sleek and Shine Leave-In, so I’ll be trying that when my Aphogee runs out or over the weekend.)
  • Miss Jessie’s Buttercreme (just a little)
  • Aloe Vera Gel (on roots, a little on ends)
  • Hot Six Oil
  • Air dry in 3 ponytails
  • Flat Iron with Sabino Moisture Block

And who said natural hair was easier?  lol

my brain is fried

July 29, 2009

It’s embarrassing how awful my brain is sometimes.  I can’t remember things like people’s names or what was talked about.  Sometimes I wonder if I don’t try hard enough.  Sometimes I wonder if it’s the thyroid thing.  Sometimes I wonder if I just have too much to manage.  It’s probably a mix of all three.  I wish I had someone to help, tell, or lean on.  It’s tough having to always pretend.

hair today

July 29, 2009

Last night I washed using the following routine (I’m documenting to make sure I don’t forget what works):

The results?  Well, while not fabulous, it is functional.  My roots are moisturized and soft.  They blend in with my relaxed ends and my bob is nice and neat.

What I wished I’d accomplished is soft, moveable hair.  Instead it’s soft, shapeable hair, lol.   My hair is so beautifully thick and frizz free.  Best of all it’s growing, but I long for the day it’s long enough to wear in a ponytail.  I could then do away with so much effort to lock moisture in and instead keep it lighter.

I’d love some suggestions on what to do.  I’m taking all of the lessons I’m learning from my research,b ut I still haven’t hit on what gives me moisturized roots, without being heavy on the conditioners and oil.  I’m guess I could solve all of my problems by roller setting or pressing my hair, but I’m not that motivated to have straight hair, lol, to do that kind of work.

I am however, in love with the fact that I really didn’t have to get a relaxer every 6 weeks.  I’m 15 weeks without a relaxer and I haven’t gone bald, lol;  I haven’t had a truly bad hair day (although yesterday with no daily wash was kinda on the border); and my hair is growing like weeds!  I see now why my Aunt only relaxed once a year.  It really isn’t necessary.  I still need to remember to ask her about her hair routine.  In fact, I’ll email her now!
